Intermodal and drayage
Short runs between the port, the ramp and the customer
Containers arrive by ship and by train. Drayage owner operators move them the last few miles: from the marine terminal or rail ramp to a warehouse, then the empty back again. The runs are short, so the work is local and you get home at night. New to it? Start with what intermodal drayage is.
Port
Import and export containers off the marine terminal.
Rail ramp
Domestic and international boxes off Class I railroads.
Customer
Warehouses and DCs around the terminal, then back.
