Local know-how
North of the St. Johns, south to Philips Highway
Jacksonville's main container terminals, Blount Island and Dames Point, sit north of the St. Johns River, about 20 and 18 miles from the Southpoint Drive yard. You reach both over the Dames Point Bridge on I-295 and off at Heckscher Drive (SR 105), where one crash can back up the East Beltway. Talleyrand, near downtown, is about 10 miles away.
JAXPORT requires a TWIC at its terminals, or a TWIC escort that slows the gate. Electronic readers reached Blount Island in spring 2025, then Talleyrand and Dames Point. You scan the card, answer security questions and get a cab check.
Rail sits closer. Florida East Coast Railway's Bowden Yard on Philips Highway is about 3 miles from the yard, while the CSX and Norfolk Southern ramps are in Northwest Jacksonville, about 20 miles out. The Westside and North Jacksonville are the city's biggest industrial areas, with a large warehouse cluster at Cecil Commerce Center.

Which ports and rail ramps are in Jacksonville?
JAXPORT has three public marine terminals: Blount Island, Dames Point and Talleyrand. CSX and Norfolk Southern run ramps in Northwest Jacksonville, and Florida East Coast Railway's Bowden Yard sits on Philips Highway. Dames Point has a near-dock CSX rail yard, and Talleyrand has on-dock rail switched to CSX and NS.
Are there owner operator openings near Jacksonville right now?

The closest live postings to the Jacksonville terminal are in Savannah, GA (about 129 miles), Dublin, GA (about 176 miles), Charleston, SC (about 199 miles) and Macon, GA (about 216 miles).
Do I need a TWIC to haul from JAXPORT terminals?
For port work, yes. JAXPORT requires a TWIC, or a TWIC escort, which slows you down. At the security gate you scan the card on an electronic reader, answer security questions and get a cab inspection. Keep the card out, declare any passengers and stay off your phone.
What are the gate hours at JAXPORT terminals?
JAXPORT does not publish one schedule. Each terminal operator sets its own gate hours, so check with the operator before you plan a run. JAXPORT is also adding a lane on Dave Rawls Boulevard near the Blount Island security plaza.
Can I haul an overweight container in Florida?
Florida issues trip and multi-trip permits for sealed containers moving to or from a port or rail facility as part of a maritime shipment. The limit is 100,000 lb GVW on at least five axles with a 51-foot outer bridge. The seal must stay intact, you carry the bill of lading or customs papers, and straight trucks do not qualify.
Where does Jacksonville freight deliver?
Most deliveries land on the Westside and in North Jacksonville, the city's biggest industrial areas, or along I-95 and I-10, with a large warehouse cluster at Cecil Commerce Center. If you are relocating up the East Coast, Eagle also posts owner operator jobs in Norfolk, VA.
What comes with leasing on in Jacksonville?
You get a fuel card with nationwide discounts, low-cost insurance, plate and IFTA programs, an ELD, front-facing dash cameras and a mobile dispatching app. There is no forced dispatch. See the full lease-on package for details.
