Local know-how

Working the DFW ramps from Ferris

There is no port here. The nearest container terminals are in Houston, well outside local range, so DFW work is all rail. Your closest ramp is UP's Dallas Intermodal Terminal on Fulghum Road in Hutchins and Wilmer, a short run up I-45 and open 24/7.

That ramp sits inside the International Inland Port of Dallas, about 7,500 acres between I-20, I-35E and I-45. Amazon, FedEx, Kohl's and Whirlpool run distribution centers there, so many loads never leave southern Dallas County. Loop 9, a new frontage-road link from I-35E to I-45, ends near Ferris.

The other ramps take longer runs. UP Mesquite on Forney Road is 25–30 miles out and has app-based gate lanes. CPKC Wylie handles Mexico and Canada service about 50 miles north, and BNSF Alliance in Haslet averages about 2,700 lifts a day roughly 60 miles northwest.
