Local know-how
Working CSX DeWitt and the I-81 corridor
The ramp is CSX's DeWitt intermodal yard at 600 Fremont Road in East Syracuse. It stretches about 3.5 miles across East Syracuse, DeWitt and Manlius. A 2020 rebuild added cranes, a new processing area and a reworked gate, and the yard moved from wheeled to grounded containers.
There is no container port in local range. The Port of Oswego handles bulk and project cargo, not regular container lines. Since July 2020, CSX has run weekday trains between DeWitt and ExpressRail Elizabeth at the Port of New York and New Jersey.
Expect road work. The downtown I-81 viaduct is coming down in a project due to finish in 2029, and I-481 is being renamed I-81 so through traffic takes the eastern bypass. Freight is growing north in the Town of Clay, home to a large Amazon fulfillment center and Micron's new chip campus.

Local FAQ
Syracuse owner operator questions
Where is the Syracuse rail ramp?
CSX's DeWitt intermodal yard at 600 Fremont Road, East Syracuse. New York picked it over sites in Camillus and Jamesville as the region's inland port in 2017, and CSX modernized it in 2020 with new cranes and a reconfigured gate.
Are there owner operator openings near Syracuse right now?
Yes. 1 posting is live within about 160 miles of the Syracuse terminal as of October 30, 2026: Syracuse (about 13 miles). Distances are straight-line miles; a recruiter confirms which yard you would run from and the hiring area for your ZIP code.
Is there port work out of Syracuse?
No. The Port of Oswego handles bulk and project cargo such as grain, salt and aluminum, with no regular container service. Containers from the Port of New York and New Jersey come in by CSX rail to DeWitt instead.
How will the I-81 project affect local runs?
The downtown viaduct is being removed, with a new West Street interchange and new I-81/I-690 connections. FHWA approved renaming I-481 as I-81 and the old route as Business Loop 81 in September 2026, though officials said immediate changes are not expected.
Where is warehouse freight growing around Syracuse?
North of the city in the Town of Clay. Amazon opened a 3.7 million sq ft robotic fulfillment center there in May 2022, and Micron broke ground on its White Pine Commerce Park chip campus in January 2026.
What do Syracuse owner operators gross?
Eagle owner operators gross $3,000–$5,000 a week company-wide, paid by weekly direct deposit. That is gross revenue, before fuel, insurance and your other truck costs come out.
What does Eagle provide after I lease on?
Nationwide fuel discounts on a fuel card, plate, registration and IFTA programs, an ELD, dash cameras and a mobile dispatching app. Read the full lease-on package for details.
